The guides at the Annecy office suggest two different routes to reach the summit of the Viso: the normal route (south face) and the eastern ridge. The first is an easy and very wild race, the second is much more sustained, and requires a good preparation.
Viso by the normal route
Climbing is never difficult (no III), but the ascent of this wild slope is rather long.
The race takes place in two days:
The first day, you must reach the foot of the south face by joining one of the two bivouacs. From the village of Castello, perched on the Italian side of the Col Agnel, it takes 3 hours to climb to the bivouac Forciolline, bivouac ideally located on the edge of a mountain lake, or 5 hours to reach the bivouac Andeotti, at the foot of the diffilcultés.
The second day, climbing in the early morning is easy and beautiful up to the top of the "Belvedere des Alpes du Sud".
Price: 800€, max 3 participants
Viso by the East ridge
Possibility to climb the eastern ridge. Harder and more sustained than the S side, it is one of the most beautiful ways to reach the top of the Viso.
It is a great race, requiring some mountain experience and good physical condition. It overcomes this 1000 m high face in a reasonable level (a little IV, level AD) and on good rock.
In the same way as the normal track, this race is carried out in two days:
The first day, you have to go up to the Quintino Sella refuge from Pian del Ré (2h walk). This ridge just above the Quintino Sella refuge is certainly the most beautiful way to climb the Viso.
The next day, we climb the 1000m of the face by the East ridge and go down again by the normal way in South face.
Price: 1200€, max 2 participants
