Climbing the Matterhorn is a unique adventure! The summit is aesthetically pleasing and its ascent requires the complete skills of an all-terrain mountaineer. A long adventure where it is advisable to be well prepared and acclimatized.
PREVISIONAL PROGRAM :
Day 1: Ascent to the Hörnli refuge (3260m)
Departure mid-morning for Zermatt. Ascent to the hut from the Schwarzsee station (2583m) reached with the ski lifts. It takes 3 hours from the cable car station.
Day 2: Ascent of the Matterhorn (4478m) and back via the Hörnli ridge
Departure before dawn. The Hörnli ridge is a very long route consisting mainly of mixed rocky outcrops, equipped with fixed ropes. Beware the route is very busy in summer! The last part is a mixed or snowy ridge where you have to put on crampons. Descent by the same itinerary with de-escalation and abseiling to reach the refuge (about 4 to 5 hours of descent). Return to Zermatt with the cable car from Schwarzsee. The round trip from Hornli Hutte takes between 8 and 10 hours.
