The Mont-Charvin is a mythical summit of the Aravis range! In winter, this 2409 m high pyramid attracts skiers and mountaineers who climb it via the lake ridge. Today, the guides offer you an adventure between earth and sky on this wild and bucolic side of the Aravis facing the Mont-Blanc, not so far! In the past, this route was only a vague chamois hunting trail, but the current developments have made it more practicable and above all less exposed, as you only have to pass through the golet de la trouye ("sow" in Savoyard dialect) to realise that falling was not allowed.
This alpine route thus borrows the vestiges of the not so distant past, but will make you make a trip on the splendid south ridge of the Charvin which is now equipped for the great pleasure of the lovers of vertigo, at this level, one can even speak about via ferrata so much the equipment is of good quality
The panorama on the Aravis chain, the Bauges, the Mont-Blanc, and even the Beaufortain is spectacular, the atmosphere is airy and it is not rare to cross the vultures during the ascent, once at the top we take the lake ridge which offers us a view on the lake of the Mont-Charvin, a small blue jewel in the middle of the alpine pastures of Haute-Savoie! Then we continue the descent by the vire de la mène noire, an equally spectacular passage which goes through the middle of a schist cliff, there is just enough room for our feet! But fortunately, the cables are firmly attached to secure the last aerial passage of the adventure, the last hook allows us to admire the panorama from the "pas de l'ours".
All that remains is to return along a mountain path to the Arpettaz pass, passing by the Merdassier chalet in the middle. A nice loop is completed (almost 10 kilometres), all that remains is to enjoy a good tome or a piece of Beaufort cheese at the Arpettaz refuge!
