From Annecy, we take the road to Albertville and then to Beaufort, to finally go up to the Roselend dam and then to Cormet de Roselend. We park at the Plan de la Lai refuge (2 km before the Cormet).
The panorama of the day is unforgettable with the lakes of Roselend and Gittaz, the Beaufortain mountain pastures and the Mont Blanc, the schist limestone rocks sometimes in slabs, sometimes jagged and very vertical.
We take our time during this long day (3 hours drive from Annecy and back and 6 hours in the mountains between the approach and the Via Ferrata). Take your time to admire the Mont Blanc massif from the Beaufortain. Between the mountain pastures and the lakes of Roselend and Gittaz, the Roc du Vent via ferrata offers a breathtaking panorama. On one side the Mont Blanc, on the other the calm and preserved nature of the Beaufortain.
The summit ridge of the Roc du Vent has a particularity which adds to the day (and which is a popular excursion goal for hikers): the summit is split by a narrow gorge limited by the vertical walls of the towers that we cross. This is not a canyon dug by a river but a geological phenomenon of alpine movement, which has taken place over several million years. We invite our public to this day to discover the soft verticals, it's a kind of vertigo trail that will allow you to taste the movement in a steep or vertical terrain: why not consider afterwards a ridge crossing or a climbing experience?
Characteristics of the via ferrata :
Starting altitude: 2050 meters.
Difficulty: AD . The itinerary is made easier by many steps and metal handles for any motivated public.
Arrival altitude: 2360 meters.
Length: 850 meters.
Difference in altitude: 310 meters.
Time: 1 hour approach walk and 4 hours via ferrata
Return to the car park: 40 minutes.
The monkey bridges and the crossing of the second tower are memorable passages. The canyon that separates the two summits is spectacular. The tunnel, which allows you to finish the via, requires lighting (headlamp or other). It is the vestige of a high altitude road project - a Franco-Italian project - which was supposed to link the Piedmont via the Aosta Valley and the Beaufortain...
